Amos

Read Now

Amos was a herdmen of Tekoa, who was sent by God to warn the people of Israel of what was to come. During this time a lot of the Israelites had pride and were turning away from God little by little. There were also other countries like Tyre, Edom, Damascus and more that were causing the Israelites hearts to harden and introduced them to worshipping other false Gods. God said that pride comes before a fall so God was getting ready to allow these things to happen, in order for his purpose to prevail. We must remember that our God is a loving God but he is also a jealous God and will discipline as a true Father should.

Amos 1:3-5 reads "Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron: but I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, which shall devour the palaces of Ben-hadad. I will break also the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from the plain of Aven, and him that holdeth the sceptre from the house of Eden: and the people of Syria shall go into captivity unto Kir, saith the LORD."

Amos 1:6-7 reads "Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they carried away captive the whole captivity, to deliver them up to Edom: but I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, which shall devour the palaces thereof:
Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they carried away captive the whole captivity, to deliver them up to Edom: but I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, which shall devour the palaces thereof."

Amos 3:1-4 "Hear this word that the LORD hath spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying, You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities. Can two walk together, except they be agreed? Will a lion roar in the forest, when he hath no prey? will a young lion cry out of his den, if he have taken nothing?"

Light and darkness will not mix, so certain things as a true believer of Christ, you cannot get into. In this case, the Israelites had reaped the consequences of their actions and bad choices. They had to repent, turn from their wicked ways and come back to God. God is there waiting and says that if his people will call on his name, humble themselves, turn from their wicked ways, he will heal their land(2 Chronicles 7:14).

In Amos 7:1-6, Amos was able to see the vision of what was to come on the Israelites,  such as Locusts and how God's judgment with fire was going to devour the land. This is the same type of occurrences that will occur after the rapture, that was revealed in the book Revelations. In the end, Amos interceded on the Israelites behalf and pleaded with God for these things to not happen, and things were able to turn around for them.

The story of Amos allows us to remember the importance of not allowing pride to get in the way, or worship other false Gods. These things only lead to disarray into a dark path away from God, and he said that no one shall worship any Gods before him. God also said that every knee shall bow and every tongue will confess(Exodus 20:3 & Romans 14:11), so make every day another day to honor, thank, and worship him!

Have a blessed & prosperous week!~
